To get the most out of CS1010, commit to the following:

  • Keep up to date. Read the announcements, emails, discussions, and files posted on Canvas so that you know about the latest course activities and discussions.
  • Follow administrative instructions. Pay attention to instructions and meet the stated deadlines for administrative matters.
  • Prepare and ask questions. Read the lecture notes, attend classes, and seek clarification when you are unsure.
  • Make a genuine attempt. Do your best to solve the quizzes, problem sets, programming exercises, and past-year questions. Do not copy solutions from friends, AI tools, or other online sources.
  • Understand released solutions. After solutions or sample code are released, work to understand the thought process and principles behind them, whether they came from the teaching team or elsewhere.
  • Help others learn. Discuss the course material and teach one another so that everyone can understand it better and work through assessment questions. Do not provide solutions verbatim for others to copy.
  • Participate actively. During labs and tutorials, ask questions, share your attempts, and comment on other students’ attempts.
  • Ask for help early. Seek guidance and feedback if you feel lost or start falling behind.
